A People Person Who Trains Dogs
Andrea Acosta is the owner and trainer behind Spot On Training in San Diego, California.
She is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed with more than 20 years of professional training experience. Before working with family dogs, Andrea trained cheetahs, flying macaws, and owls at the San Diego Zoo.
But here's the thing Andrea learned along the way: she is not just a dog person. She is a people person who trains dogs.
"She lives for the moment when the human on the other end of the leash finally understands their dog differently — and everything changes."
Why I Do This Work
Most people think they want a dog who follows every command perfectly.
What they actually want is a dog they can enjoy.
A dog who can relax at the coffee shop. Walk through the farmers market without causing a scene. Settle at the brewery. Come along on the trip instead of staying behind.
Andrea started Spot On Training to help dog owners stop chasing perfection and start building a life that actually works for them and their dogs.
My Approach to Training
Spot On Training uses force-free, positive reinforcement training.
That means no pain, fear, intimidation, dominance theory, e-collars, choke chains, or harsh corrections.
Training focuses on motivation, confidence, communication, and skills that hold up in real life. Your dog learns how to make better choices around distractions by practicing in the places where distractions actually happen.
The world is the classroom. The distractions are the curriculum.
What Working Together Looks Like
When you work with Spot On Training, you will not be handed a rigid one-size-fits-all plan.
You will learn how to understand your dog, practice useful skills, and build confidence in real San Diego environments. Group classes happen in places like parks, beaches, breweries, shopping centers, trails, and patios. Private training gives dogs extra support when they need a more personal starting point.
The goal is not a perfect dog. The goal is a dog who fits into your real life more fully, calmly, and joyfully.

Why San Diego Dog Owners Choose Spot On Training
The goal is a dog you understand better — and a life together that feels easier, fuller, and more fun.
